Pohoda by STORMWARE has been the accounting benchmark in the Slovak and Czech market for over 20 years. It has over 200,000 users, prices in the tens of EUR per month, and an ecosystem of accountants who know it intimately. Despite that, more and more SK companies are migrating from it to modern cloud ERPs. Why? And when does it make sense to migrate, and when to stay? Let’s look soberly, without fanaticism in either direction.
Where Pohoda excels and why the SK market loves it
Pohoda is clearly the cheapest and most accessible accounting solution for a micro and small company in SK and CZ. The reasons are obvious:
- One-time license from 199 EUR (Mini version), significantly lower than monthly SaaS price over 3 years
- Universally accepted XML format, every SK accountant will close your books with it
- Offline functionality, you do not need internet, you work on a laptop even in a cottage
- Local support and a wide network of certified partners
- Deep integration with SK legislation, VAT, personal income tax, reports for Social Insurance, Health Insurance, Tax Office
For a freelancer, micro-business (1-5 people), or traditional small company with slow change pace, Pohoda is often the optimal choice. Don’t fix what isn’t broken.
Where Pohoda starts to brake, signals it’s time to change
The moment a company grows and digitalizes, friction surfaces. Here are 8 signals at which a standard Pohoda installation is too tight:
- More than 5 people access the data, license limit, network version is expensive
- You need access from home / on the road, Pohoda is primarily a desktop application
- You have an e-shop and want real-time stock status
- You manage multiple companies (holding, subsidiaries)
- Salespeople need CRM and pipeline, Pohoda CRM is modest
- You want automations (approval workflows, email triggers)
- Manufacturing with multi-level BOMs and capacity planning
- You need audit log, role-based access, and modern compliance (e.g. ISO 27001 for tenders)
If you tick 3 or more on this list, Pohoda is now taking more from you than giving.

5 typical scenarios, what we recommend when
Scenario 1: Self-employed, freelancer
Status: 1 person, 30-100 invoices per year, simple accounting. Recommendation: Stay on Pohoda or move to a cloud alternative such as iDoklad/Superfaktura. A cloud ERP is overkill.
Scenario 2: Stable family business, 4 people, no growth
Status: Agricultural production, bakery shop, craftsmen. Processes change once every 5 years. Recommendation: Stay on Pohoda. Migration would cost more than the benefit.
Scenario 3: Growing company 8-20 people, first e-shop
Status: The owner went past offline. Pohoda is starting to tear at the seams, the warehouse does not show real-time, salespeople have no CRM. Recommendation: Consider migration within 12 months. Start hybrid (Modulario for warehouse + CRM, Pohoda still for accounting via export).
Scenario 4: Manufacturer 25+ people with capacity planning
Status: Multi-level BOMs, custom production, several machines. Recommendation: Immediate migration. Pohoda Jazz for manufacturing has limits that brake growth. See the Modulario manufacturing module.
Scenario 5: Company before entering a corporate client / tender
Status: You need ISO 27001, audit log, DPA, multi-user, role-based access. Recommendation: Immediate migration. Pohoda meets these requirements only partially and with custom modifications that are expensive.
What migration from Pohoda to cloud looks like, realistically
Migration is not a switchover at midnight on January 1. The typical course at our clients:
Phase 1 (0-2 weeks): Inventory of data in Pohoda, definition of migration scope, preparation of categories and code lists. Phase 2 (2-4 weeks): Import of historical data (customer, supplier, goods code lists), system setup. Phase 3 (week 4-6): Parallel operation, Pohoda and cloud. Key users learn. Phase 4 (week 6-8): Live operation in the cloud, Pohoda goes read-only. Phase 5 (anytime): Close the last year in Pohoda, archive.
Typical migration budget for a 15-employee company: 4,500-9,000 EUR (one-off, implementation + data + training). More in comparison vs Pohoda.
Tip: Accountants do not like mid-year migrations. Ideal timing: before the start of the accounting period (November-January) or after the Q2 VAT close (July-August).
How much does staying “one more year” cost you?
A typical 15-employee company that postpones migration loses:
- 4,200 EUR per year on duplicate entry between Pohoda and Excel for CRM/warehouse
- 6,800 EUR per year on slow offer and order issuance (a competitor takes the order)
- 1,900 EUR per year on errors in inventory and invoicing
- Priceless: key people’s frustration and worse agility
Together ~13,000 EUR per year, which is 2-3x more than the price of a cloud ERP.
Conclusion
Pohoda is a great tool, for its segments. For companies that grow, digitalize, and want agility, however, it eventually becomes a brake. The key is in the honest answer: where will our company be in 3 years and what software base do we need to build today?
